The drive from Oregon to Washington was beautiful as we traveled along the Columbia River. Crossing the Astoria-Megler Bridge, which links the two states and stretches 6,545 meters, was an impressive sight!

We loved our secluded spot nestled among the trees in the quaint town of Skamokawa, Washington. The campground was serene and beautiful. Its stunning location along the Columbia River was unexpectedly quiet, and the tranquility away from a crowded campground in the off season was much appreciated. This stretch of the river serves as a shipping route from Portland to the Pacific Ocean, offering fantastic photo opportunities alongside the scenic beach and wildlife.

During the week we stayed, it mostly rained, but we were fortunate to have two sunny days. During those days, we went for a bike ride and took a day trip to Long Beach.

Check out our separate blog post about our day trip to Long Beach.

There are just a few amenities in the area in the nearby town of Cathlamet: a small market, a couple of cafes, a pub, a gas station, and, surprisingly, a brewery by the river with an amazing outdoor patio perfect for summer.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time in Sakmokawa and it is definitely on our list of places to return to and explore further.

Till next time,
